What controls nuclear glutathione levels?
Nuclear GSH import regulates the G1 to S transition in roots during homeostatic growth and in regeneration. While nuclear GSH import during G1 is a conserved cell cycle feature in plants and animals, the nuclear GSH transporter in plants is not known. This is a major gap in knowledge in the fundamental cell biology of plants and control of the cell cycle.
The Lee Lab is using high throughput screening tools to identify genes that contribute to GSH nuclear localization. These tools can be applied to any visualizable molecule in the cell.
